Equine influenza outbreak: notice for horse owners reading-time-icon 1 min read

There have been several outbreaks of Equine Influenza across the UK during the last few weeks, so if you haven’t already had your horse vaccinated, we implore you to do so as soon as you can.

This is especially important if your horse has not been vaccinated during the last 6 months, or if you plan to take them out in public for a show or competition, or anywhere they’ll be around other horses. Vaccination will help greatly to boost their immunity against Influenza.

Either way, stay aware of the symptoms of Equine Influenza, which can include:

  • Frequent coughing
  • A runny nose
  • A high temperature
  • Quick, heavy breathing or difficulty breathing
  • A general state of lethargy or depression
  • Refusing or neglecting their food

For more information on Equine Influenza, contact your equine vet today. They’ll be able to advise further based on your specific horse and situation.
